3D Printing: Qui Gon Jinn's Lightsaber...

Christmas break has given me time to experiment with some fun 3D print projects...

I got my Bambu A1 printer about 6 months ago now, and mostly I print a lot of practical everyday things. I've been wanting to work up to more ambitious prints, so I've been taking some time lately to experiement with some more complex prints. Multiple plates, multiple objects that have to be put together. Its been fun.  However...

I had my first serious 'check engine' light on my printer..

I thought I'd try printing the Qui Gon Jinn lightsaber from Star Wars: Episode 1, and it mostly turned out pretty well. The black pieces screwed into each other like precision machinery. But when I tried printing the very last piece...the button...I had a critical failure. The printer gave me a "z-axis homing" error. I tried to print a few times but it wasn't having it.

Eventually, I gave up on that last piece. The good news is that I've printed a few other small pieces since, so i'm guessing it was some specific issue with that object. I hope. I don't love the idea of taking the printer apart in an attempt to troubleshoot.

The grey sheath is pretty thin, but the black interior pieces fit together perfectly.
Mostly assembled...just missing a few pieces.
